When you install this, do any screws actually go into the wall or the wooden window frame?

The exhaust vent does not require any screws. It is adjustable to fit most windows, and is sealed by closing the window against the vent frame.

Does this unit have a removable water tray? How often does it need to be emptied?

It does not have a water tray, sadly. However, there is a tube that the water drains out of.
